So I uploaded the forum software, and am at the point where the installer script gets a cgi error, and once upon a time I would have kept at it with the help of panix's cgi troubleshooting page until it worked. Those were the days, all right. I used to have a whole forum just for talking about dolls. I didn't have a job then.
Actually, I did once have a job writing and debugging cgi scripts for a "new media startup." I had a Unix workstation on my desk and everything. But that's a story for another day.
I'll get the forum going eventually. I hope.
At least I picked a template for this blog with print big enough so I don't go blind, and added links to my favorite magazines. Now to invite some guests!

My time is all being sucked away by a time-saving device. I am at the mercy of my DVR. Inside my beloved Fauxvo are 5 hours of Veronica Mars, 6 hours of Medium, 5 hours of ER, 2 hours of Invasion and two weeks worth of my husband's shameful and inexplicable addiction to General Hospital. I'd love to get around to watching them, if they didn't interfere with Prison Break, 24, Americal Idol, House, NCIS, Amazing Race, Bones, Lost, The OC (My husband again), The Deadliest Catch, Top Chef, The Next Food Network Star and King of Cars. Drat those stupid producers for burdening me with programs I love! They've give me STRESS!!!! The most toxic of modern maladies. True, a hundred or so years ago I could have been waking up at four a.m. in my not heated shanty on the prarie to start a fire in my stove, milk a cow, collect some eggs and hopefully get breakfast on by six and then be moving on to the rest of my back-breaking chores... But that's different. They didn't have Stress then. And if mine is nearly all self-inflicted, well that's even more stress... No wonder I'm tired. That and I stayed up until 2:30 trying to clear things out of my DVR...
Linda--I hear what you mean by having time taken over by TV. If it weren't for TiVo, I'd get more housework done, but who needs that? The shows we have in common are House, NCIS, ER, and Bones. My others are Scrubs, Dr. Who, Everwood, and Battlestar (Smallville, too, but I try to keep that a secret). I also TiVo The Daily Show and The Colbert Report for a more civilized hour. Before I returned to a day job (after a 15 year absence), I watched General Hospital, too.
I've so very glad that you enjoyed Babysitting in Apex. I had a story in their first issue, too--Allergies. My novels are mostly SF. The horror stuff is a bit out of my normal range, although I have a serial killer or two in my suspense.

I loved "Allergies" too! Do you know they use it in their writer's guidelines as an example of one of the few "pure" sci-fi (i.e., not horror) stories they have published?
I'm not much with these distinctions, but I guess "Babysitting" is more horrifying than "Allergies," although the idea of never being able to go back to Earth because you're allergic to it is pretty horrifying!
If I ever get to teach a writing course, I'll use "Babysitting" as an example of a dark but happy ending.
Oh, I left off Dr. Who! We get CBC here and I watched it last spring on the first go round. I could go on forever about that show.I've only caught a couple of the Sci-Fi broadcasts. It's getting a late start on CBC (it was only a week behind the UK) because hockey is back this year and they're running that instead. Also, we watch the new Battlestar Galactica and all kinds of other cooking and decorating and cold case killer things. I work in TV promotions, so I do have the excuse that I need to see what's out there. It's funny, I was always a monster TV fan, but I had really slacked off to about two or three shows until about three years ago. Now there's so much good stuff I think my head is going to explode! We also got a nice BIG HDTV and lemme tell you, I'll watch anything in High Definition. There's a show called Sunrise Earth where they just sit up a camera somehwere pretty and watch the sun rise. That's good TV. And BTW, Hugh Laurie in High Definition... Ohh those eyes are worth the price of admission.
Speaking of Bones... Kathy Reichs, the lady who writes the books that Bones is sorts kinda based on is coming to Toledo to testify in our Priest accused of the ritutal killing of a nun cold case that's all over Court TV. We're hoping to get a sit-down interview with her to talk about her books and the show. I hope I get to meet her!
There is also a nice stack of library books by the door making unreasonable demands on my time. I have an Elizabeth Peters Mystery, a book on grilling, two books on creating altered art (stop me before I get a new hobby) a lovely tome on short-on-time gardening, a true crime book and a book of stress relieving stretches and one on organization.
